YSR Congress party honorary president and former MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi on Friday checkmated the Telugu Desam Party and its supporting media’s plan to highlight non-existent differences between her and her son, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Vijayamma not only joined Jagan in the prayers at her husband’s Samadhi at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district, but also flew down to Guntur along with her son in a helicopter to attend the YSRC plenary held near Nagarajuna University campus.
And in the capacity of honourary president, Vijayamma delivered her speech, much to the disappointment of the TDP and the yellow media. She thanked everybody who stood by her family right from the beginning.
She said she had come to the plenary to bless the followers of her husband YSR, who loved the entire world like his own family.
“He is still alive in the hearts of the people. I came here to bless you and congratulate you for standing by my family and helping us to serve the people,” she said.
Stating that the YSRC was born from the blessings of the people, Vijayamma said Jagan was marching ahead with the sole objective developing the state on all fronts.
“Success has not come to Jagan so easily. He had to struggle a lot,” she said.
She reminded that the Congress party had hounded Jagan and his family out and created troubles for him by putting him in jail and seizing his assets.
“Yet, Jagan did not surrender nor did he beat a retreat. With the blessings and support of the people, he came to power,” she said.
Vijayamma also took a dig at TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
“He has ignored implementation of welfare schemes introduced by his own father in law N T Rama Rao. He never bothered to solve the people’s issues. The people should question what he had done for them during his regime,” she asserted.
Describing her son as a role model for the youth, the YSRC honourary president said Jagan was a man of masses and hence, has been implementing welfare schemes for the poor people.
