Venkaiah shows interest in Nellore Ayurvedic drug!

The distribution of an Ayurvedic medicine by a traditional medical practitioner B Anandaiah in Krishnapatnam village of Nellore district as an effective cure for Covid-19 has become the talk of the town in Andhra Pradesh for the last few days.

On Friday, thousands of people from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and even neighbouring states, thronged the clinic of Anandaiah for obtaining the Ayurvedic preparation.

It led to a virtual stampede in the village, forcing the police to resort to lathi charge.

At a review meeting in the camp office, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered that the officials conduct a detailed study into the efficacy of the Ayurvedic medicine being distributed by Anandaiah.

He asked the authorities to involve the authorities of Ayush department and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to do a study on the same.

Interestingly, even Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu evinced keen interest in this Ayurvedic medicine of Anandaiah.

He spoke to in-charge Ayush minister Kiran Rijiju and ICMR director general Prof Balram Bhargav and asked them to conduct a detailed study on the Ayurvedic medicine for treating Covid-19.

On coming to know that thousands of people were thronging Krishnapatnam village, Venkaiah made enquiries with his close acquaintances staying in and around Krishnapatnam and obtained the details. He shared their experiences with the minister and ICMR director general.

“Since it is an important development, the Vice President asked them to complete a scientific study on the medicine at the earliest and submit a report in the best interest of the people’s health,” a statement from the Vice-President’s office said.
