Varsities grooming YSRC workers, alleges Pawan

Power star and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan on Thursday expressed regrets over the universities in Andhra Pradesh celebrating the birthday of YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and wondered whether the universities are on the job of grooming YSRC workers.

In a statement, the Jana Sena chief said the universities have to make students aware of social, political and international issues. But a doubt has been raised that ignoring these responsibilities the prominent universities in Andhra Pradesh are on the job to prepare the ruling party activists, he said.

“What does it indicate to the student fraternity and the society by converting the universities as the ruling party offices by filling campuses with that party Chief Minister's flexis? It appears strange that to extend wishes to the YCP chief minister, who declared that the flexis would cause harm to the environment, by decorating with flexis,” he pointed out.

Pawan Kalyan regretted that such developments have taken place in Andhra University, which has a long history of more than nine decades.

“Andhra University is the abode of Goddess Saraswathi and great personalities like Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Sir C R Reddy had served as Vice- Chancellors. So many intellectuals came out of the university. Everyone should think that what the result would be if the people in key positions are doing silly politics and displaying the party flexis,” he said.

He pointed out that a similar tendency is witnessed at Acharya Nagarjuna University during the YSRC plenary in July.

“If the vice-chancellors of the universities have a special love towards that party and affection towards the chief minister, they shall discharge their duties confining them to their homes,” he said.

The vice chancellors shall not pressurise the students and the small-time employees to organise celebrations and make forcible party conversions. They shall make efforts for the overall growth of the students.

“The vice-chancellors have to stop fund transfers from university bank accounts to the government and work with responsibility for the development of the universities,” the Jana Sena chief said.
