Varma deletes post on Pawan victory, after row

Senior Telugu Desam Party leader SVSN Varma, who had sacrificed his seat to support Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in Pithapuram in the last assembly elections, is back in the news for wrong reasons.

There have been reports that Varma has been growing impatient over the denial of any prominent post by the TDP leadership and is also not happy with the way Pawan Kalyan has been ignoring him after becoming deputy chief minister.

Before the elections, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu assured him that he would be made the first MLC in the new government.

It has been nearly nine months since the coalition government was formed, but so far, neither Naidu nor Pawan Kalyan made any attempt to honour their commitment.

Naturally, it has led to some kind of frustration in Varma, which he has been expressing among his close associates.

Against this backdrop, a post that appeared on his social media handle X on Friday, created tremors in the state politics.

In the post, Varma said: "Only a hard-earned victory is respected."

Along with this, he attached a video compilation showcasing his campaign efforts for Pawan Kalyan's victory. However, the deputy chief minister was not featured in the video at all, and the visuals only highlighted Varma’s role in the campaign.

The tagline of his post indicated that Pawan Kalyan did not work hard for his victory, but rather, Varma's efforts were responsible for the Jana Sena Party chief’s win.

Known for their instant reactions, the Jana Sena Party supporters were outraged and started posting negative comments against Varma for indirectly targeting Pawan Kalyan.

Alerted by the development, the TDP leadership spoke to Varma and got him delete the post quickly. He also released a series of tweets claiming that he had nothing to do with the post.

He claimed that for the past three years, his social media accounts have been managed by Social Planet, a Hyderabad-based company.

“I had no involvement in the video posted today on my X handle. Upon learning that incorrect information was posted without my knowledge, I immediately instructed the social media team to delete it,” he explained.

He said he had also warned them that if any false information was posted without my permission in the future, strict action will be taken.

The agency also gave a clarification that it had posted the video and the message without Varma’s knowledge, thereby putting an end to the controversy.
