It is a well-established convention, though not necessarily a rule, that whenever a new government is formed, the political appointees made by the previous government resign from their posts as a matter of principle.
Soon after the formation of YSR Congress party government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh in May this year, many chairpersons of various corporations and presidents of various boards resigned form their posts, following this convention.
Senior Tollywood director K Raghavendra Rao resigned from the post of chairman of Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel, Tirupati Urban Development Authority Chairman Narasimha Yadav, Tirupati Gangamma temple trust Chairman RC Muni Krishna and members, Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple trust board chairman Gouranga Babu resigned from their posts.
Similarly, Nannapaneni Rajakumari had quit the post of AP Mahila Commission and Vemuri Ananda Surya as the chairman of AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation.
Even Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board chairman Putta Sudhakar Yadav had to quit his post after resisting the same for a few weeks.
However, senior TDP leader and MLC Varla Ramaiah had been sticking to the post of AP State Road Transport Corporation chairman for the last five months. He clung to his post despite repeated reminders by the Jagan government.
In September, Transport Commissioner and present in-charge MD of APSRTC Krishna Babu issued a notice to Ramaiah as per sub-clause 2 of Section 8 of the APSRTC 1950 Act.
Having no other option after receiving the show cause notice, Varala Ramaiah announced his resignation as chairman of RTC on Saturday. He sent his resignation letter to Principal Secretary of Transport.
