Gannavaram legislator Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan is facing a typical proverbial – “nag har ka, nag hat ka,” situation at present.
Though it has been more than 10 days since Vamsi had claimed to have resigned from the Telugu Desam Party and his assembly membership, there has been no information as to what he would do next.
Since he had put in his papers after meeting YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, there was a talk that he would join the YSRC.
There were also reports that he would take the plunge into the ruling party on November 3. But till date, there has been no such move.
There are reports that Vamsi has developed second thoughts as he was asked to resign from the MLA post before joining the YSRC.
Secondly, he was told to prove his loyalty to the party by campaigning for YSRC candidate Yarlagadda Venkat Rao in the ensuing by-elections to Gannavaram.
At the same time, the YSRC leadership was not happy with Vamsi for negotiating with the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders like Sujana Chowdary simultaneously.
Now, the Gannavaram MLA cannot join the BJP as well, as the moment he does that, assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram would invoke the anti-defection law and disqualify him.
Having done all this, Vamsi may have to face an embarrassing situation to continue in the TDP as well. TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu made a couple of appeals through WhatsApp messages to prevail upon Vamsi to stay back in the party.
As a last-ditch effort, he sent Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani and former MP Konakalla Narayana Rao to hold talks with the MLA. But they failed in their attempts and declared that the ball was now in Vamsi’s court.
Interestingly, Vamsi has resigned from the TDP and the assembly seat only through WhatsApp to Naidu. He has not done in black and white. So technically, he will continue in the TDP but might not be pampered as has happened till recently.
Sources said Vamsi may wait for some time and renegotiate with the YSRC leadership for a better bargain. Otherwise, he will continue to face troubles!
