Ram Pothineni recently saw career best blockbuster with ‘iSmart Shankar’, but his attempt to gain a foothold in the Tamil film market has backfired.
He teamed up with Tamil director Lingusamy who has been going through a lean phase for “The Warriorr”. His gamble didn’t pay off.
Despite having two viral songs, “The Warriorr” has not opened well in the USA.
The makers also took special care not to screen the premiere shows in the USA earlier than the Indian screenings.
The film was released in the USA at the same time the first screening was done in India.
All this care and thought has little help to the film. In the first weekend, the film grossed under $100k. It didn’t see any jump after the revenue of $40k from previews.
Ram Pothineni’s film needs to collect $425k to reach the breakeven stage. With just about a $100k collection from the weekend, the film is looking at huge losses.
The movie can't add any big money to its kitty. The overseas distributor will lose 75% of the investment.
