The negative sentiment attached to Uravakona assembly constituency in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh has once again proved right.
According to this sentiment attached to Uravakonda, whoever wins from this seat will have to sit in the opposition, as his party does not come to power in the state.
Since politicians believe in astrology and sentiments like film stars, they have strongly believed in this Uravakonda sentiment: anybody who contests the elections from Uravakonda s constituency on a party ticket will turn out to be a bad omen for the party.
A report coming from Anantapur that senior Telugu Desam Party leader Payyavula Kesav is most likely to win the elections from Uravakonda assembly constituency is understood to have caused a lot of worry for party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
This time again, senior Telugu Desam Party leader Payyavula Kesav won the Uravakonda assembly seat by a slender margin of 2,430 votes.
And it turned out to be a bad omen for the TDP, which lost the assembly elections again and ended up with just 23 assembly seats.
Kesav represented the constituency twice in the past – 2004 and 2009, but on both the occasions, the TDP lost the power. In 1999 elections, he contested for the first time but lost the elections and the TDP came to power.
In 2014, he lost the elections again in the hands of YSRC candidate Vishweshwar Reddy and the TDP won the assembly elections, while YSRC had to sit in the opposition. So, the sentiment continued to haunt the TDP.
In any case, Kesav always excelled while he was in the opposition and though Naidu might have lost the assembly elections, Kesav will be an asset to the party in the assembly!
