Two members of the Andhra Pradesh state legislative council, who resigned from the YSR Congress party recently and defected to other parties, were disqualified from their council membership on Tuesday.
In a notification, legislative council chairman Moshen Raju announced that Vamsi Krishna Yadav, who got elected to the legislative council from Visakhapatnam local bodies’ constituency and C Ramachandraiah, who was elected to the council under MLAs’ quota from Kadapa, were disqualified.
While Vamsi Krishna joined the Jana Sena Party, Ramachandraiah was back into the TDP, after making critical comments against YSRCP president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Interestingly, both the MLCs, who were elected to the council in 2021, still have three years’ time to complete their term.
The decision to disqualify them was taken following a complaint lodged by YSRCP chief whip in the council Meruga Muralidhar and MLC Lella Appi Reddy with the council chairman.
“After taking a comprehensive inquiry and seeking explanation from the defected MLCs, council chairman Moshen Raju took the decision to disqualify them,” the notification said.
Now, the Election Commission has to conduct fresh elections to the two seats, which might be held only after the general elections, sources said.
