The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Monday issued a notice to the Visakha Sharada Peetham headed by Swamy Swaroopanandendra, known to be spiritual guru of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, asking them to vacate its premises in Tirumala.
The Peetham’s building, located near Gogarbham Dam, was reportedly constructed in violation of several regulations.
The previous YSRCP government regularized these encroachments, which prompted protests from civil groups and Hindu religious organizations.
Telugu Desam Party-led coalition govenrment headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced a cleansing drive starting from Tirumala.
Following this, a committee of TTD officials submitted a report detailing illegal constructions and procedural lapses in the Sharada Peetham’s property.
Based on this report, TTD Chairman B R Naidu declared during a board meeting that all encroachments by Sharada Peetham would be removed.
TTD’s Estate Department then issued a show-cause notice to the Peetham, which in turn approached the court.
The court ruled that the Peetham had indeed violated regulations and affirmed that TTD has the authority to take action.
Accordingly, TTD has now issued a formal eviction notice, instructing the Peetham to vacate and hand over the building within 15 days.
