Tirupati laddu row: Sharmila wants deeper probe

AP Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila said the Supreme Court observation on the alleged adulteration of ghee used in Tirupati laddu was a slap on the face of the state and central governments.

“Right from the beginning, we have been demanding that the probe into alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddu should be entrusted to the CBI or any other central agency. The SC observation endorsed our view,” she said.

Sharmila said the ongoing investigation by Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra police would not be able to bring out any facts, as it is a rubber stamp of the Naidu government.

“Only if the investigation is entrusted to the CBI, there will be deeper probe into the adulteration of laddu. It will also clear the doubts planted in the minds of millions of devotees,” she said.

Sharmila sought a comprehensive probe into how the adulteration was done and where it was done.

“Who are the thieves behind this adulteration of ghee? What was the reason behind engaging a contractor for supply of ghee at such a cheaper rate?” she asked.

She also wanted why the state government had kept the report of National Dairy Development Board for more than two months.

“Why is it being used to fuel the flames of communal politics? There should be a thorough probe to find answers to several such doubts,” she saud.

Sharmila demanded that the culprits behind alleged adulteration of ghee, if at all it happened, should be severely punished.

“If you give importance to the hurt feelings of Hindus and if communal politics is not your agenda, the NDA government should take into consideration the suggestions of Supreme Court,” she said.
