A pre-poll survey conducted by an independent political survey agency Voice of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (VOTA) headed by senior journalist Kambalapalli Krishna has revealed that there is anti-incumbency against the YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh.
But majority of the people feel that Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is the better choice for continuing as the chief minister.
As many as 39 percent of the people who the agency has interviewed said Jagan is the better chief minister, while 37 percent people voted for Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu. Only 12 percent of people said Pawan Kalyan is the right choice.
The anti-incumbency against the Jagan government is mainly because of the performance of local MLAs, as 48 percent of the people said they would not re-elect their MLAs and only 45 percent said they would elect their MLAs again. Nearly 46 percent of the people said the anti-incumbency is mainly because of the MLAs.
If this survey outcome is correct, then Jagan is justified in changing nearly 40 percent of the sitting MLAs. And that might help his party come back to power.
The survey also brought out an interesting point that nearly 46 percent of the people have said Jagan’s welfare schemes is better than the promises made by Naidu, who got support only from 40 percent voters.
The survey, however, has revealed that 44 percent of the people are of the view that there will be a change of the government in the coming elections, while 42 percent said there will be no change. The remaining 14 percent refused to predict.
The survey predicted that the YSRCP would get 42 percent of votes, whereas the TDP-Jana Sena combine would get 51 percent. However, if the TDP and Jana Sena Party contest separately, the YSRC would come to power again.
The VOTA has conducted the survey between December 15 and 31 with the sample size being 17,500. The age group of people who took part in the survey include: 18-35 (36%); 36-45 (42%); 46-55 (10%); and 55-65+ (12%).
