Tension in Tirupati as cops restrict YSRCP cadres

A tense atmosphere is prevailing in Tirupati as local police have imposed prohibitory orders, banning political meetings, rallies, and processions in the temple town, apparently to restrict YSRCP leaders and cadres from organizing a grand reception for party president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is scheduled to arrive in Tirupati on Friday evening.

The Tirupati police have served notices to several YSRCP leaders, instructing them not to hold any processions or rallies to welcome Jagan, as no permission has been granted for such events due to the sensitive situation.

"As you are aware, on 27.09.2024, former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to visit Tirumala Tirupati. Since no permission has been granted for this event, it is informed that under your leadership, activists and supporters will proceed to Tirupati in private vehicles and participate in the event,” the notice stated.

The police further cautioned that participation in the said event without proper authorization is legally prohibited, and this notice is being issued accordingly.

According to YSRCP sources, many leaders in the region have received these notices in advance, and several have been placed under house arrest by the police.

“This blatant action clearly reflects the biased and discriminatory treatment being meted out to YSRCP leaders in the state, showcasing the excessively high-handed approach of the police under political influence,” the party said.
