At a time when YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is trying to shift the blame on to the Telugu Desam Party for a series of attacks on temples and destruction of idols, the Left parties chose to target the BJP for the vandalism, thereby indirectly giving a clean chit to the TDP.
At a time, when BJP state president Somu Veerraju courted arrest and many of his party leaders were placed under house arrest for trying to lead a march to Ramatirtham where the idol of Sri Rama was desecrated last week, the Left parties described it as a big drama.
Andhra Pradesh Communist Party of India (Marxist) secretary P Madhu said BJP was trying to rake up communal passions by giving Chalo Ramatirtham call, only to pre-empt the criticism that they were raising Christian bogey against the government to gain political mileage.
He demanded that the Jagan government should not wash off its hands by ordering a CID inquiry.
“It should bring the real culprits to book, as they were trying to exploit the religious sentiments for their political mileage,” he demanded.
CPI national secretary K Narayana alleged that BJP was perpetrating the attacks on temples only to divert the farmers’ agitation against the controversial agriculture laws.
“The demolition of idols was a big drama,” he criticised.
