The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday granted temporary relief to YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and four other party leaders in connection with the attack on the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office on October 19, 2021.
The High Court heard arguments on the petitions filed by Sajjala, Devineni Avinash, Talasila Raghuram, Lella Appi Reddy, and Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who sought anticipatory bail concerning the incident.
The court ruled that the government should not take any coercive steps against the five petitioners until July 16, when the arguments will be heard again.
The hearing could not be completed on Thursday because Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas, who was to present the government's version, was unable to attend due to viral fever.
The Mangalagiri police have already arrested eight individuals in two phases, reportedly affiliated with the YSRCP.
The police have commenced their investigation, acquiring CCTV footage from the premises and identifying the accused parties.
Meanwhile, former minister Jogi Ramesh also received relief in another case related to the attack on the residence of TDP President and current Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the same day.
The High Court granted Ramesh anticipatory bail and instructed the police not to arrest him until the case is heard.
Ramesh allegedly attacked Naidu’s residence and clashed with security personnel, an incident captured by six CCTV cameras around the residence and office.
Jogi Ramesh expressed his concerns about a possible arrest.
“The government is trying to harass me. I have not done anything wrong. They may arrest me and put me in jail for two to three months. They cannot, however, hide the truth,” he said.
