TDP loses its chambers to YSRC in Parliament

YSR Congress party, which is the fourth largest political party in Lok Sabha with as many as 22 MPs, has got its due recognition in Parliament.

On Thursday, the YSRC was allotted a spacious chamber in Parliament complex for its parliamentary party. At present, it has 22 Lok Sabha members and two Rajya Sabha members.

The YSR Congress party was allocated with Room No. 5 on the Ground floor of Parliament.

Interestingly, the chambers allotted to the YSRC was earlier allocated to the Telugu Desam Party from 2014 to 2019.

The TDP till recently had 15 Lok Sabha members (plus two more MPs defected from YSRC) and six Rajya Sabha members.

After the humiliating defeat in the recent general elections, the strength of the TDP in Lok Sabha has come down to three – Galla Jayadev, Kesineni Nani and K Rammohan Naidu.

And out of six Rajya Sabha members, four MPs including Sujana Chowdary, T G Venkatesh, C M Ramesh and Garikapati Mohan Rao, defected to the BJP. Now, the TDP has only two RS members – Kanakamedla Ravindra Kumar and Seetha Mahalakshmi.

So, with just five MPs in its fold, the TDP has lost its recognised parliamentary party status to be allotted official chambers.

On the other hand, as many as 15 political parties which have more than five MPs have been allotted official chambers for their parliamentary parties in the complex.
