TDP finds politics even in release of prisoners!

Being an opposition party, it is nothing but natural for the Telugu Desam Party to make political criticism against ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh on any issue. But there is a limit even to politicizing issues just for the sake of it.

For instance, the TDP has chosen to see political reasons even behind the noble decision of YSR Congress party government to grant amnesty to as many as 55 women prisoners who have completed five years of their life term on humanitarian grounds.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy cabinet on Thursday took a decision to release 55 women life convicts out of the total number of 145 women prisoners who have been serving life sentence in various jails. A GO was also issued to this effect on the same day.

The decision was taken on the recommendation of a committee headed by state home secretary and comprising officials of the law department, a judge, senior police official and a prisons department official.

The eligible prisoners are being identified after thorough scrutiny of their credentials, their conduct during their imprisonment and their social background.

Most of these 55 women prisoners have also pursued their graduation during the conviction period and were also trained in various crafts like tailoring, embroidery, baking etc.

But the TDP suspects foul play even in the release of these women prisoners. TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah made some sarcastic comments in his tweet saying those prisoners being released could be the ruling YSRC activists.

“It is surprising that the government has chosen to release 55 life convicts. When we made enquiries, it was revealed that they were “asmadeeyulu” (our men, meaning YSRC workers). Why has the government shown so much interest in release of these life convicts? Is it because they belong to the ruling party?” Ramaiah asked.
