Target India: Tesla’s Budget EV Around Rs 35 Lakh

Target India: Tesla’s Budget EV Around Rs 35 Lakh

India is set to reduce electric vehicle (EV) import duties from 110% to 15% under its 2024 EV policy, aiming to attract global automakers like Tesla.

The company plans to import 8,000 cars annually from Germany at the lowered rate and is also exploring local manufacturing.

Tesla’s proposed Rs 35-40 lakh budget EV and a 5 lakh unit factory could boost India’s EV ecosystem while serving as an export hub.

Discussions are underway regarding special incentives and improved port connectivity to facilitate operations.

Several states, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana, are vying to host Tesla’s manufacturing facility, offering favorable business environments and infrastructure support.

If established, Tesla’s presence would mark a significant milestone in India’s transition to electric mobility, enhancing both domestic production and global exports.
