YSR Congress party MLA from Rajampet assembly constituency in Annamayya district Akepati Amarnath Reddy on Saturday refuted the allegations that he had encroached upon the government land and said if the government has found any, it can take such land back.
Reacting to the reports that the district authorities had served him notices on land grabbing and asked him to appear before them for questioning, Amarnath Reddy told reporters that neither he nor his family had encroached on any land.
“If any illegal occupation is found, the government is free to take it back. We built houses in our own village; and I have no land whatsoever in any other part of the district,” he said.
The MLA said he had not received any notices from the Annamayya district Joint Collector and that he would not go to any official for questioning as he had not done any mistake.
He said the allegations of land grabbing were not new, as TDP general secretary and present minister Nara Lokesh also made similar accusations during his visit to Kadapa. “I have always maintained that if I had encroached on any land, the government could reclaim it," he said.
However, the land dispute controversy continues to surround the MLA. It is alleged that, during the tenure of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, over 30 acres of government land in Akepadu and Mandapalli villages of Rajampet mandal were encroached upon and registered under the Akepati Estate name.
Rajampet mandal TDP president Subbanarsayya Naidu has lodged a complaint with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, urging action against the alleged land encroachments. Following this, the CMO directed the Annamayya district collector to conduct an inquiry.
As a result, Collector Sridhar assigned the investigation to the Rajampet Sub-Collector, and a Revenue survey team has already completed its probe into the matter, sources said.
