A day after attacking Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and pledging loyalty to YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan was on Friday suspended from the TDP.
Analysts say it is a sort of blessing in disguise for Vamsi who has not officially resigned from the party yet.
If he is expelled from the party, he can continue as an MLA, without formally joining the YSR Congress party and getting disqualified.
Since he has not resigned from the TDP, but was suspended from the party, there is no objection to the YSRC to treat him as a party man though technically, he does not take the party membership.
The chief minister can also say Vamsi has not joined the YSRC and any MLA can support his government’s policies; so, it does not amount to encouraging defections.
Vamsi, who lashed out at TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu for launching one-day deeksha at Vijayawada on Thursday in protest against the failure of the government to solve the sand scarcity in the state, attacked Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh on Friday.
“Lokesh does not have a stature or experience to criticise me. He could not even win the assembly elections. A person who is surviving by taking his father’s name has no comparison with me,” he said.
He also attacked Naidu for ditching the party loyalists.
“What is there for him to suspend me? If he has guts, he should have suspended the Rajya Sabha members who changed the party. He has done nothing for me in the last five years, though I had served the party for a long time,” Vamsi alleged.
He said the TDP had never contested the polls on its own after the demise of N T Rama Rao. He said,
"The TDP is losing the confidence of the people because it frequently changes alliances,” he said.
