Former MLA from Tadikonda assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh Dr Vundavalli Sridevi, who got disqualified from the assembly membership recently for shifting loyalties from YSR Congress party to the Telugu Desam Party, is now repenting for her decision.
Sridevi, who was suspended from the YSRCP for allegedly voting in favour of TDP candidate Panchumarthi Anuradha in the MLC elections last year, later joined the TDP officially.
At the time of joining the TDP, party president N Chandrababu Naidu assured to take care of her political interests, though he did not give any firm assurance to her about giving the party ticket from the same constituency in the coming assembly elections in the state.
Later, Sridevi met Naidu several times to lobby for her case.
She requested that if not Tadikonda, Naidu should consider her candidature for Tiruvuru assembly seat or Bapatla parliamentary constituency. Naidu agreed to consider her request.
Accordingly, Sridevi took part in the padayatra of Lokesh in her constituency and has been actively participating in the TDP activities in the district. She was pretty confident that she would be considered for Bapatla LS seat.
But when Naidu announced the lists of candidates, Sridevi was terribly disappointed as her name was nowhere to be seen.
She did not get either Tadikonda or Tiruvuru assembly seats; and not even Bapatla LS seat, for which Naidu brought a retired IPS from Telangana.
Her frustration was evident from her tweet on Friday.
“I have realised today how politics are played and who is what kind of persons in politics,” she said in Telugu, tagging the map of Bapatla parliamentary constituency.
Interestingly, Sridevi posted a “knife” symbol along with her tweet, indicating that she has become a victim of “backstabbing politics,” for which the TDP earned notoriety.
To be on the record, out of four MLAs who were suspended from the YSRCP last year for allegedly voting for the TDP in the MLC elections, only two MLAs – Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Anam Ramnarayana Reddy were given the TDP tickets.
Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy from Udayagiri and Vundavalli Sridevi from Tadikonda could not the tickets!
