Six years on, no headway in Viveka murder case!

It has been exactly six years since former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, the younger brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, was brutally murdered in his home in Pulivendula in the early hours of March 15, 2019.

Initially investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh police, the case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following directions from the state high court.

However, six years after the gruesome crime, the case has seen little progress. On Saturday, his daughter, Y S Sunitha, lamented that justice remains elusive.

Speaking at her father’s death anniversary event in Pulivendula, Sunitha paid tribute and addressed the media.

"It has been six years since my father was murdered, and yet, we have not received justice," she said.

She pointed out that the trial has not even begun in the CBI court. Except for one accused, all other suspects remain free.

"I hope the CBI resumes the investigation soon," she urged.

Sunitha also raised concerns about witnesses dying under suspicious circumstances and some being threatened into retracting their statements.

"It appears that the accused are manipulating the proceedings to delay the case," she alleged.

Expressing deep anguish, she stated that despite her continuous fight, justice remains out of reach.

"It feels as though our family, more than the accused, is being punished in this case. The state government must ensure the safety of both the witnesses and the accused," she said.

She also claimed that immense pressure is being exerted on witnesses, fueling suspicions over their sudden deaths.

Sunitha reaffirmed her commitment to seeking justice.

"No matter how long it takes, I will continue this fight," she declared.

Several family members, including her husband Rajasekhar Reddy and Y S Prakash Reddy, attended the event to pay tribute to Vivekananda Reddy.
