Ace badminton player P V Sindhu has been allotted two acres of prime land in Visakhapatnam, absolutely free of cost, to establish badminton academy and sports school.
Orders to this effect were issued by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government on Thursday.
The land was allotted in survey nos. 72 and 83 at Chinna Gadili village in Visakhapatnam (rural) on the outskirts of the city.
The land has been transferred to department of youth services and sports for allotment to Sindhu.
Stating that the land allotment is being made free of cost in the interest of the public, the government made it clear that the land should be used only for the purposes of sports academy.
It also asserted that the academy should provide training to the talented sportspersons among the poor, completely free of cost, without any profit-orientation.
Sindhu has already informed the government that it would construct the badminton and sports academy in two phases, each at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
Now that the land has been allotted, things are expected to move faster.
