Scribe held for fake news, not questioning Jagan

On Friday, TDP general secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh made an allegation on his social media platform Twitter stating that the Andhra Pradesh police had kidnapped journalist Kunchala Siva Prasad from his residence in Hyderabad without giving any notice.

He alleged that the police had kidnapped the journalist for speaking about the AP government’s policies.

“They have illegally confiscated his phone without a warrant or warning. Sad to see policemen being used CM @ysjagan like party karyakarthas. This is a serious violation of human rights and a grave error committed by policemen,” Lokesh said.

But on Saturday, it was revealed that the police had picked up Siva Prasad for questioning not for making any comments on the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, but for spreading a fake news against a YSR Congress MP.

Apparently, Siva Prasad, who has been running a YouTube channel from Hyderabad, carried a story the other day that this particular MP was in talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party and might take a plunge into the saffron party anytime by quitting the YSRC.

Based on a complaint lodged by the YSRC MP, the Crime Investigation Department police filed a case against Siva Prasad stating that the report on the YouTube channel had also made some other wild allegations against him, damaging his reputation.

Following the complaint, the police took Siva Prasad into custody and questioned him. He was let off after being given a notice under Section 41 (A) of Criminal Procedure Code, the police said.
