Former YSR Congress Party general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy, who resigned from both his Rajya Sabha seat and primary membership of the party in January, is expected to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within the next two to three months, according to sources.
Reports indicate that Sai Reddy has been in discussions with the BJP leadership regarding his political future. Although the BJP extended an invitation for him to join immediately after his resignation, he requested time for a break from politics.
Apparently, he wanted to avoid the perception that he was coordinating with the NDA partners while still in the YSRCP.
Given that the BJP is part of the ruling alliance in Andhra Pradesh, an immediate switch would have sent the wrong message—suggesting that he was betraying Jagan Mohan Reddy.
To dissociate himself from such speculation, Sai Reddy publicly stated that he was retiring from politics to focus on farming. He even shared photos of himself working in agricultural fields to reinforce this narrative.
However, recent events have cast doubt on his claims. His presence at the ceremonial reception for Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar during the latter’s visit to Hyderabad raised many eyebrows.
Notably, the Vice President gave him greater prominence than sitting MPs, sparking speculation that Sai Reddy was returning to active politics.
Amid these rumors, highly placed sources have confirmed that his induction into the BJP is already finalized. Reports suggest that he will officially join the party in June or July.
Even during his tenure in YSRCP, Sai Reddy maintained close ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
With his exit from YSRCP and potential entry into the BJP, political analysts believe that this move could pose additional challenges for Jagan Mohan Reddy, as the BJP distances itself further from the YSRCP.
If Sai Reddy joins, it is expected to widen the political gap between the two parties and potentially reshape Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape.
Interestingly, sources indicate that top coalition leaders, including Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, are already aware of Sai Reddy’s decision to join the BJP.
So, it’s all part of the game!
