Sai Reddy gets key post in parliamentary panel

Notwithstanding the confrontationist attitude being adopted by the YSR Congress party towards the Bharatiya Janata Party in the last few days, senior YSRC leader and parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy was rewarded with a key post in Parliament.

On Tuesday, Sai Reddy was appointed as member of the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament, considered to be one of the most important legislative committees.

A bulletin to this effect was released by Parliament secretary general Desh Deepak Varma.

Along with Sai Reddy, BJP member Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi.

The two posts had been lying vacant for quite some and the NDA government nominated Sai Reddy and Trivedi for the same.

The committee has a lot of significance, as it has the powers to look into the accounts of central government public sector undertakings.

It is headed by the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdary of the Congress party.

The members are nominated from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The appointment of Sai Reddy is a clear indication that the NDA government continues to view YSRC as a friendly party, though the latter has been adopting an aggressive posture against the Centre.

The YSRC leaders even accused the BJP leadership of trying to pull down the Jagan Mohan Reddy government and appoint a leader who defected into BJP as a successor in Andhra Pradesh.

Interestingly, Sai Reddy will also be under pressure from the workers of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which has been put up for 100 per cent privatisation by the Centre.

Since the steel plant is also a public sector undertaking of the Centre, he would have to look into its accounts as well and put up a fight to prevent its privatisation.

If he remains silent on the privatisation, the YSRC would be in trouble.
