It looks like YSR Congress party general secretary and parliamentary party leader V Vijay Sai Reddy is hell bent on closing down Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) University in Visakhapatnam at any cost.
For the last few days, Sai Reddy has been dashing off letters to various central government agencies including Medical Council of India, University Grants Commission and HRD ministry, seeking to expose various irregularities indulged in by the management of GITAM, led by M Sri Bharat, younger son-in-law of senior actor and TDP legislator Nandamuri Balakrishna and grandson of former MP late M V V S Murthy.
On Friday, Sai Reddy wrote yet another letter to All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) chairman Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe alleging that GITAM management had constructed engineering college buildings in the encroached government lands,
He requested that the AICTE order a comprehensive probe into the alleged irregularities in obtaining permissions for new courses and additional seats hiding the facts.
He alleged that the GITAM university had obtained Grade I autonomy from the UGC by suppressing facts.
Sai Reddy brought to light of the AICTE that the GITAM management had adopted backdoor methods in obtaining building permissions and land use certificates and shown the same to the AICTE to get approval for additional engineering courses.
Stating that GITAM University had no capacity to obtain deemed university status, the YSRC leader appealed to the AICTE to appoint an inquiry committee to look into the misdeeds of the university management.
