For quite some time, the YSR Congress Party's general secretary and parliamentary party leader, V Vijay Sai Reddy, has maintained a very low profile in the party's activities and has hardly been involved in any of the party meetings.
In the past, Sai Reddy was considered the No. 2 in the party after the party president and chief minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Party leaders used to make a beeline to Sai Reddy, as they had no direct access to Jagan, to get their work done.
Secondly, Sai Reddy is known for his soft-spoken nature and hardly hurts anybody when approached for any work.
Many MLAs used to get their work done through the MP without having to trouble the big boss.
At the same time, there were allegations against him from some MLAs that Sai Reddy was acting like a de facto chief minister and was wielding undue power.
There was also talk that he was encouraging groups within the party in the districts.
Besides, some people in Visakhapatnam complained that his followers were resorting to land settlements.
After receiving many complaints, Jagan reportedly kept him off crucial party positions like the party in-charge of Visakhapatnam and overall in-charge of the party's affiliated organizations, besides the social media network.
In his place, Jagan has encouraged other leaders like Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, who is now calling the shots in the party. Sai Reddy has become quiet and has restricted himself to Delhi activities. He has also stopped making aggressive comments on social media.
However, Jagan has recently realized the importance of Sai Reddy in controlling the party activities, as party leaders are slipping out of his hands.
So, he has decided to bring Sai Reddy back into action in the party by entrusting him with key responsibilities.
Sources say the YSRCP general secretary is going to take control of the party activities again from Friday and steer the party in the direction desired by Jagan. After all, who is more committed and reliable than Sai Reddy for Jagan?
