The ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh is not losing any opportunity to bring pressure on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to see that rebel YSRC MP from Narasapuram Kanumuru Raghurama Krishnam Raju disqualified from his parliament membership.
The rebel MP who has become a thorn in the flesh of the YSRC leadership has been getting away from disqualification apparently with the support of the Speaker and the top leadership in the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre.
Though the Speaker had served him a notice on the petition given by the YSRC seeking his disqualification and asked him to submit an explanation before July 31, no further action has been taken.
The intense lobbying by the YSRC MPs did not bear any fruit.
But the YSRC leadership has not given up its attempts. On Monday, when Om Birla came to Tirupati to have the darshan of Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala and Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur, the YSRC leadership made all arrangements for him much to his satisfaction.
Though as per the protocol, TTD trust board chairman Y V Subba Reddy, executive officer K S Jawahar Reddy and other officials received the Lok Sabha speaker and extended him all formalities, YSRC general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy flew down to Tirupati exclusively to appease the Speaker.
He, along with his deputy floor leader in Lok Sabha P Mithun Reddy, was present along with the Speaker all through the darshan and ensured that he got all the privileges during the visit.
After the darshan, Sai Reddy and other MPs had once again held a brief meeting with the Speaker, apparently to request him to take a quick decision on the disqualification of Raghurama Krishnam Raju.
A visibly happy over the arrangements made by the TTD, Om Birla reportedly assured the YSRC leaders that he would look into the matter and take a decision at the earliest, as per the parliament rules.
Let us see how far this lobbying will help the YSRC get rid of the headache of Raghurama Krishnam Raju.
