At a time when the YSR Congress party top leaders are expressing confidence that the party will return to power in Andhra Pradesh for a second successive term under the leadership of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, glamorous actress-turned-politician R K Roja seems to be not very confident of her own victory.
Roja, who has been representing Nagari assembly constituency in Chittoor district on YSRCP ticket and has even been elevated to the cabinet minister post, has openly expressed her dissatisfaction over the lack of cooperation from her own party leaders.
She told reporters after observing the polling trend in her constituency on Monday that she was upset with the way some YSRCP leaders sought to sabotage her prospects in the elections.
“Some leaders within the YSRCP have been trying for quite some time to see that I get defeated in the elections. In fact, I have faced more negative campaign against me from my own party leaders than the Telugu Desam Party leaders and cadre,” she said.
Roja said those who had been opposing her leadership in Nagari for the last few years had openly campaigned against her in the elections and worked for her defeat.
“YSRCP leaders like K J Kumar, who were given prominent nominated posts from Jagan, worked against me with vengeance in the elections,” she said.
The tourism minister said perhaps no other leader in the YSRCP was facing so much resistance from within the party.
“It is unfortunate that these leaders have worked against the own party leader,” she lamented.
