It has been nearly eight years since former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy has faded into political oblivion. Nobody knows what he is doing and the people of the state have virtually forgotten him.
Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had resigned from the Congress party on February 19, 2014, a day after the passage of Andhra Pradesh bifurcation bill in Lok Sabha, floated a new political party called – Jai Samaikyandhra Party – a month later, on the promise of upholding the “dignity and prestige” of Telugu people.
But his party fared badly in the 2014 assembly elections and after that he had faded out of the politics. Around 2018, Kiran rejoined the Congress party but has not been very active in the party. He appeared in public on a couple of occasions and later went into oblivion again.
As a matter of fact, the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh itself has become defunct with no actions and activities. So, Kiran had nothing much to do.
His name was considered for the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief post, after the resignation of N Raghuveera Reddy post-2019 assembly elections.
But he did not accept the same and finally, former minister S Sailajanath was made the PCC chief. Yet, there was no improvement in the party prospects in the state.
Now, with the political atmosphere is hotting up in the state, the Congress high command is trying to breathe some life into the party in AP. The talk is that the high command is planning to appoint Kiran Kumar Reddy as the president of APCC chief.
It is not exactly known what the reaction of Kiran Kumar Reddy is, but even if he takes over as the PCC chief, he is unlikely to turnaround the fortunes of the party.
What is more, he will be become a fresh target for YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who feels Kiran had grabbed the CM post after Rosaiah during the combined regime.
Secondly, Kiran’s brother Kishore Kumar Reddy is playing a key role in the Telugu Desam Party. It gives yet another chance to the YSRC to allege an unholy nexus between Kiran and the TDP. So, it is unlikely that Kiran would accept the PCC chief post.
