Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Jammalamadugu in YSR Kadapa district C Adinarayana Reddy, who was in the news a few months ago for picking up quarrel with the Telugu Desam Party leader and former MLA J C Prabhakar Reddy over fly ash transport in the cement factories in the district, is now back in the news for the same old wrong reasons.
On Wednesday, the district police authorities under the directions of Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar, filed a case against Adiinarayana Reddy following a complaint from Ultratech Cement factory at Tadipatri in Anantapur district alleging that he was demanding huge money from the company and stalling the lorries entering the factory.
The cases were booked on the submission of report by the district authorities on the instructions of district collector Cherukuri Sridhar.
Cases were booked also against Adinarayana Reddy's close aide Jagadishwar Reddy and others.
According to reports, Adinarayana Reddy has been pressuring cement industries in the region to award all transportation contracts to him or his followers.
Though the company obliged his request and awarded some contracts to his followers, he is allegedly demanding control over all contracts related to raw material supply and cement dispatch.
When the company authorities refused his request, his supporters blocked the supply routes, halting delivery of limestone and fly ash, key materials for cement production.
This blockade caused operations at the Chilamkur unit to stop, with the Yerraguntla unit also facing imminent shutdown.
Sources said a mini bus was used to physically block trucks. Followers were stationed to prevent vehicle movement, resulting in prolonged disruption.
“The MLA is also demanding contracts related to the transport of coal from Krishnapatnam Port, fly ash from Nellore, and gypsum from Rajahmundry,” the company authorities complained to the collector.
Adinarayana Reddy, however, denied the reports and alleged that the UltraTech Cements was exploiting the region with discriminatory pricing, neglecting worker welfare and environmental issues and evading corporate social responsibility by failing to compensate families of deceased workers.
