Record tests, record cases, record deaths in AP!

Andhra Pradesh created a new record of sorts with regard to Coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday, in terms of number of tests, number of positive cases in a single day and number of deaths due to the virus.

An official bulletin released by the state medical and health department in the evening claimed that the state has created a new record in conducting tests for Covid-19.

In the last 24 hours, the state reported the conduct of an unprecedented number of 70,584 tests in a day.

This figure includes 33,385 VRDL, Truenat and NACO tests and 37,199 rapid antigen tests. This is for the first time that the state has conducted such a huge number of tests for Covid-19.

As a result, the Tests Per Million (TPM) has increased to 34,083, which continues to be top in the country. In all, as many as 18,20,009 samples were tested till date.

The sad part of the story is that such a huge number of tests resulted in detection of 10,093 positive cases in a single day, which is also an unprecedented record in the state. This is for the first time that the state crossed 10,000-mark in the Covid-19 positive cases.

In all, the state reported a cumulative number of 1,20,390 positive cases till now. East Godavari tops with 17,739 cases, followed by Kurnool with 14,478 cases, Guntur with 12,816 cases, Anantapur with 12,358 cases and West Godavari with 10,356 cases.

The state also reported 65 new deaths in a span of 24 hours, which is also a record figure.

As many as 14 people died of Covid-19 in East Godavari district, followed by eight in Anantapur, seven in Vizianagaram, six in Chittoor, five each in Kurnool and Nellore, four each in Krishna and Prakasam, three each in Guntur and Kadapa and two each in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and West Godavari districts.
