Noose is tightening around suspended Telugu Desam Party legislator from Satyavedu assembly constituency Koneti Adimoolam, as the Tirupati (East) police on Friday registered a rape case against him for the alleged sexual assault on a woman member of the party in July.
Based on a complaint given by the woman, the police registered a case of sexual harassment and rape against the MLA at two different rooms of a popular hotel in Tirupati.
According to reports, the police also seized the video footage from the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera of the hotel to establish the fact that it was Adimoolam who had entered the hotel on the particular dates mentioned by the woman in her complaint.
The hotel records also showed that the TDP MLA had booked the rooms in the hotel on those dates. The hotel management also confirmed that Adimoolam is a frequent visitor to the hotel and would book rooms regularly.
Now that the facts are coming out, Adimoolam is likely to resign from his assembly membership in a day or two and he would also be expelled from the party soon later.
Before the police registered a case against him, Adimoolam told reporters that he had not committed any mistake and it was a political conspiracy by his rivals who could not tolerate his growth in politics.
“Some so-called leaders claiming to be from the TDP had colluded with the YSR Congress party people and colluded against me. They used this woman as a pawn and targeted me. I leave it to her wisdom on the allegations made by her,” he said.
The MLA said he was answerable to the people of Satyavedu constituency.
“If I had sexually harassed her, I would be punished by the god. I shall abide by the party decision and I shall now allow the party to face the damage because of me,” he said.
Stating that he had been in politics for the last 50 years, the MLA said he was confident that justice would prevail ultimately.
