Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president and former minister N Raghuveera Reddy on Wednesday announced that he had resigned from the PCC chief post, taking responsibility for the defeat of the party in the state in the recent assembly elections.
Raghuveera’s resignation follows similar resignations by party senior leaders across the country in the wake of AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s decision to step down from his post taking moral responsibility for the party’s debacle across the country.
However, Raghuveera said he had tendered his resignation on May 19 itself, four days before the announcement of election results in Andhra Pradesh. But his resignation was not accepted by the party high command. So, he had been continuing in his post.
One fails to understand what difference it does make for the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh whether Raghuveera resigns or stays back as PCC chief.
Even if Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi stayed back in Andhra and campaigned in the last elections, the party would not have won even a single seat, as the people had already buried the party and there was no scope for its revival in the state.
So, Raghuveera’s resignation hardly matters to the people. Yet, he says he would continue in the Congress party till his last breath.
There are a couple of other leaders in the party who want to stick to the party as a matter of principle. But their political career has practically come to an end already!
