If Andhra Pradesh state assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram has his way, Telugu Desam Party president and leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu is most likely to be suspended from the ensuing assembly sessions.
Assembly secretary P Balakrishnamacharyulu on Tuesday served privilege notices on Naidu and also another former MLA Kuna Ravi Kumar for making inappropriate remarks to the Speaker in the course of criticizing the Speaker.
In his notices to Naidu and Ravi Kumar, the assembly secretary asked them to give their reply within a week.
The winter session of the state assembly is scheduled to be held from December 9 and depending on the replies given by Naidu and Ravi Kumar, the Speaker will take a decision.
In all probability, Sitaram might resort to suspension of the TDP leaders from the assembly at least for the session, if he takes their comments seriously, sources said.
It remains to be seen how the TDP would react to these notices and what action do Assembly speaker would take.
In the last few days, the TDP leaders have been targeting the Speaker. They alleged that Sitaram was behaving more like a hardcore YSRC leader, rather than a Speaker who is supposed to be independent.
At one stage, Sitaram claimed that he was first an MLA and only after that he had become a Speaker. And he made strong comments against Naidu and the TDP. This led to a counter-attack from the TDP leaders including Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and MLAs Ravi Kumar and Atchen Naidu.
The YSRC leaders alleged that the TDP leaders foul-mouthed the Speaker using inappropriate words violating the norms of the assembly. They submitted a memorandum to the assembly secretary seeking action against the TDP leaders.
