When YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was in power, the Andhra Pradesh Police Officers’ Association often defended his government and countered criticism from the then-opposition Telugu Desam Party led by N Chandrababu Naidu, particularly when Naidu accused IPS officers of aligning with the YSRCP.
Now that Naidu is in power and Jagan is in opposition, the situation has reversed.
On Tuesday, AP Police Officers’ Association president Janakula Srinivasa Rao strongly criticized Jagan for his recent threatening remarks against the police, in which he allegedly said he would strip them of their ranks if he returned to power.
“It is better that Jagan refrains from making threatening remarks against police officers. He cannot intimidate officers who are simply doing their duty,” Srinivasa Rao stated.
He condemned Jagan’s comments and expressed outrage over his claim that even retired officers would be publicly humiliated.
“Such statements undermine police morale and shake confidence in the force,” he added.
Srinivasa Rao reminded Jagan that the same police officers serving the state today were also part of his government just eight months ago. He emphasized that the police force operates impartially, beyond political or factional interests.
He further criticized Jagan for alleging a breakdown of law and order in the state for political gains.
“The police salute only the four lions of the national emblem, representing law, justice, and truth, not individuals who fail to uphold democratic values,” Srinivasa Rao asserted.
He demanded that Jagan retract his statements and refrain from politicizing the police force.
