Pinnelli gets bail in EVM destruction case

After repeated attempts, YSR Congress party leader and former MLA from Macherla assembly constituency in Palnadu district Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy was on Friday granted bail by the state high court in the case related to destruction of electronic voting machine on May 13 and assault on police on May 14.

Pinnelli, who was arrested by the police on June 26 and has since been in judicial remand at Nellore central jail, was given conditional bail by the high court including submission of two sureties for Rs 50,000 each.

The high court also asked the former MLA to surrender his passport to the court and appear before the magistrate and Macherla station house officer every week. It also asked him not to leave the headquarters without obtaining permission from the court.

Following the high court order, the YSRCP rank and file are making arrangements to accord him a warm welcome to Pinnelli, when comes out of the Nellore central jail by evening or not. A tight security has been arranged at the jail to avoid any untoward incidents.

It may be mentioned that the former MLA was arrested at Narasaraopet on June 26 for his involvement in a case of destruction of an EVM and VVPAT at the Palvaigate polling station, attack on a polling agent Namburi Seshagiri Rao who tried to intervene, and abuse of a woman, Naga Shiromani, in Rentachintala on May 13.

On May 14, the ex-MLA along with his brother Venkatrami Reddy was reportedly involved in post-poll violence, burning a vehicle and allegedly attacking circle inspector Narayana Swamy at Karempudi.

The ex-MLA moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the four cases booked against him. The court granted it temporarily and directed the police not to initiate any action until further orders.

Later, on June 26, the High Court held its hearing and struck down the four anticipatory bails. This led to his arrest.
