The resignation of V Vijay Sai Reddy from the YSR Congress party and the Rajya Sabha membership has shaken the party and its president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, but the latter has decided to move on by making strategic changes in the party.
Jagan who returned from his London trip to Bengaluru on Friday has scheduled a crucial meeting with party leaders on February 3 and 4.
He is learnt to have indicated to the party seniors that he won’t stop people from leaving the party, but would take it forward with whatever strength he has.
According to sources, during the discussions with party leaders on February 3 and 4, Jagan would announce restructuring of the party organisation in the wake of steady departure of key party members.
He would also discuss the strategies to step up the party activities, starting with state-wide agitation regarding fee reimbursement scheme on February 5, sources said.
Jagan is expected to focus on finding a replacement to Vijaya Sai Reddy who had played a pivotal role in the party’s functioning, especially in Parliament, representing YSRCP in Delhi. His close association with Jagan made him a key figure in national politics.
However, following Sai Reddy’s resignation, Jagan is now reconsidering leadership roles within the party.
With the Parliament session commencing on Friday, Jagan has already held discussions with party leaders on assigning the duties of parliamentary party leader.
Sources said Jagan has chosen senior leader Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose in place of Sai Reddy as the party floor leader in Rajya Sabha.
However, the key man for Jagan in New Delhi, who can continue lobbying for the party in Delhi will be P Mithun Reddy.
Being a three-time MP from Rajampet parliamentary constituency, Mithun Reddy is learnt to have developed a lot of contacts with the Delhi bosses.
“Hitherto, Mithun Reddy was accompanying Sai Reddy to the meeting with big bosses in Delhi. Since Sai Reddy is not there, Mithun Reddy will be stepping into his shoes,” sources added.
