Power star and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan and his party workers are nowhere seen at a time when the officials, the police and doctors of Andhra Pradesh government have been struggling to combat Covid-19 pandemic.
Several voluntary organisations, corporate houses, individuals and even activists of various political parties are doing their best to help the people affected by Covid-19, but Pawan Kalyan has not come up with any such programme.
But on Saturday, the Jana Sena chief came up with a strange statement demanding that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government pay ex gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the families of the employees who died on duty due to Covid-19.
He also demanded that one of the family members of the Covid-19 victims should also be given a government job.
He pointed out that several government employees – doctors, nursing staff, lab technicians, hospital staff, police and sanitary workers of civic bodies – had turned into front line warriors to fight the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Already, nearly 200 doctors, medical students and nursing staff, besides 600 policemen tested positive for Covid-19. As many as 10 policemen died due to Covid-19. The government should acknowledge the supreme sacrifices these frontline warriors were making, risking their lives,” he demanded.
Pawan said the government should come to the rescue of the families of these frontline warriors who had lost their lives.
It should pay compensation of Rs 1 crore to each of them, besides a government job to one of their family members, he demanded.
Pawan also wanted the government to grant special leaves to those who fall sick due to coronavirus.
