Paul to go on indefinite fast for steel plant

Maverick evangelist-turned-politician and president of Praja Shanthi Party K A Paul has announced that he would launch indefinite fast in New Delhi from March 21 in protest against the proposed privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by the Centre.

Paul said his indefinite fast was also in support of farmers who had been agitating against the controversial agriculture legislations enacted by the NDA government.

He extended solidarity with the farmers who had been agitating on the borders of Delhi.

The evangelist politician met farmers’ leader and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh convenor Rakesh Tikait in New Delhi and discussed about the impact of controversial farm laws.

He demanded that the Centre should immediately repeal the three farm laws that would ruin the farmers.

Paul said he had already filed a petition in Andhra Pradesh high court against the Centre’s decision to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

He alleged that the Centre was trying to sell not only the public sector undertakings, but also public, particularly farmers.

Tikait announced that he and the other farmers’ representatives were strongly opposing the privatisation of Vizag Steel Plant.

“We shall stand by the agitating workers of the steel plant and the people. There is no question of withdrawing our agitation till the centre withdraws its draconian legislations,” he warned.
