Partial relief for Jogi, Devineni in SC

Partial relief for Jogi, Devineni in SC

Senior YSR Congress party leaders, former minister Jogi Ramesh and former MLA Devineni Avinash, received partial relief from the Supreme Court on Friday regarding cases related to the attacks on the residence of Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri during the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy regime.

A division bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Amanullah, heard the petitions of Jogi Ramesh and Devineni Avinash seeking anticipatory bail and deferred the case for four weeks.

The judges stated they were unable to proceed with the hearing immediately due to technical reasons and would consider the arguments after four weeks.

The bench announced that it would make a decision on the anticipatory bail petitions of the two YSRCP leaders on November 4 and instructed the government not to take any coercive action against them until further orders.

However, the Supreme Court directed Jogi and Devineni to fully cooperate with the investigation into the cases against them.

"They must appear before the investigating officer whenever called. If they refuse to cooperate, the court will offer no protection, and they can be arrested," the bench stated.

The court also ordered both YSRCP leaders to surrender their passports to the investigating officers within 24 hours.

Last month, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Mangalagiri Rural police questioned Jogi Ramesh regarding the attack on Naidu’s Undavalli residence during his tenure as opposition leader in 2020.

However, the police reported that Ramesh did not answer any questions directly, with his lawyer, Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy, responding on his behalf.

The police sought details about the incident, including the number of vehicles and people involved, who orchestrated the attack, and whether it was premeditated.

Ramesh claimed that the case was politically motivated by the previous TDP government and stated his intention to challenge it in court. He clarified that his visit to Naidu’s residence was to protest remarks made by Ayyanna Patrudu against YSR Congress Party leader Jagan Mohan Reddy, not to attack Naidu’s home.
