Rajya Sabha member T G Venkatesh, who defected from Telugu Desam Party to Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019, has been named accused no. 5 (A-5) in the alleged attempt to grab prime government land at Banjara Hills Road No. 10 in Hyderabad.
The police, who submitted a remand report in the court, alleged that Venkatesh’s men from Kurnool trespassed into the government land allotted for setting up of AP Gems and Jewelry Park a couple of days ago and threatened the security persons with lethal weapons.
The police booked a case against Venkatesh, his nephew T G Vishwa Prasad, Subhash Pulishetty, Mithu, V V S Sarma and 80 others for allegedly attacking the security staff and destroying the properties.
The accused reportedly tried to attack the property of AP Gems and Jewelries in February 2021 as well, the police said.
A couple of days ago, the encroachers carrying weapons trespassed into the property at Road No 10, Banjara Hills and tried to scare away the security personnel, so that they could occupy the land.
On coming to know about the incident, the Banjara Hills police rushed to the spot and took the accused into custody.
Vishwa Prasad bought half-acre of land from a person, who sold the land to him using forged documents.
The land was allotted by the Chandrababu Naidu government in 2004 for the AP Gems and Jewelry Park. As the work has not commenced, the land grabbers set an eye on it, the police said.
