Opinion: YS Jagan Needs to Clean Up First

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has confidently stated that the YSRCP will return to power. He has started preparing his leaders and workers for the next election campaign.

But before making such strong claims, there needs to be honest reflection on the reasons behind the party’s 2024 defeat.

Jagan seems to believe that he still has a strong team around him. But this belief is questionable.

Many of those close to him are not working to rebuild the party — they are repeating the same old patterns that led to the defeat.

The party failed to counter the alliance’s political strategies, mainly due to poor communication, weak ground-level leadership, and mismanagement.

This is the age of social media, where controlling public narrative is critical. Yet, the YSRCP failed to highlight major issues like questionable land allocation of 60 acres to URSA.

The ruling party, in contrast, managed to divert public attention more actively and strategically.

Even in moments that required a human touch — like visiting the families of victims of Pahalgam violence — Jagan stayed distant and consoled on phone, while leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan visited in person. This damaged Jagan’s image among neutral voters.

If YSRCP truly wants to return to power, Jagan must first clean up the internal system. Many people close to him are more of a burden than an asset.

Loyalty without performance is harmful. The party must focus on capable leadership, strong media presence, and public engagement.

If Jagan doesn’t understand the need for change, the idea of Jagan 2.0 will remain just a slogan. A genuine political comeback will require action, not assumptions.

All that he has to do first is clearing all the debris kind of coterie members around him. If that is not done, the party workers don't mind deserting YS Jagan as well.
