Opinion: Before Kodela, there was Bhuma

We have witnessed the recent unfortunate demise of Kodela Sivaprasad Rao and the way in which the TDP held the YSRCP accountable for his death.

TDP blamed the allegedly unfair cases filed against Kodela which led the ex-Speaker to take his life.

Kodela Sivaprasad despite being a doctor had a reputation as a factionist.  The Kamma community in his region looked upon him as a sort of demi-god.

Such a thick-skinned person would not have committed suicide because of police cases foisted against him.

Rather, he was extremely depressed reportedly because of the pressure caused by his children’s activities, especially those of his son.

A man can survive stab wounds caused by an enemy but not an insult from his own family.

But looking at the wider horizon, Chandrababu and the TDP seem to have forgotten Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

After coming to power in 2014, so many cases were filed against Bhuma by the TDP leaving the latter with no other option than to join the TDP.

Chandrababu had apparently promised Bhuma a Minister’s post but kept dilly-dallying over the issue which caused huge stress to Bhuma who eventually succumbed to the pressure.

Therefore, though uncalled for, these blame games are of no use as they have become part and parcel of politics.

When Chidambaram was the Home Minister, Amit Shah went to jail and now the scenario has been reversed.

When TDP was in power, Paritala Ravi and his men ran amok in Anantapur and when Congress came to power, the opposite was witnessed.

Moral of the story?

In politics, the advantages are absolute power and wealth whereas the disadvantages are total humiliation and possibly even murder.

Only a person prepared for both eventualities can contemplate accomplishing something worthwile here.
