All these days, the Telugu Desam Party led by former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been lobbying extensively for forging an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party, apart from Jana Sena Party headed by power star Pawan Kalyan.
But now, Naidu seems to have changed his tactics, after YSR Congress party led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy extending unconditional support to the BJP in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on crucial bills and no-confidence motion.
He has apparently realised that the BJP national leadership has a soft corner towards Jagan and is going an extra mile to help him. Though the BJP is not officially aligned with YSR Congress, though it has maintained a tacit understanding with the party. YSRCP has been supporting BJP in Parliament in lieu of central support to the state.
According to a report in the national media, the TDP chief is upset with the unofficial ties between the BJP and the YSRCP and has decided to hold back his attempts to forge a formal alliance between BJP and TDP.
While BJP is keeping its line open with both YSRCP and TDP, but Naidu reportedly put a condition that the TDP will align with NDA only after BJP cuts off all ties with YSRCP, the media reports said.
Till recently, Naidu has made efforts to mend bridges with the BJP leadership at the Centre and is all set to get back into NDA. But there was no response from the BJP, at least openly.
Naidu knows that the BJP has little presence of its own in Andhra Pradesh and it might not help the TDP much to have an alliance, but it would definitely help if the Centre gives up its soft stand towards Jagan and doesn’t allow him to bulldoze the election process.
