Even as the uncertainty continues to loom large over the fate of Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh with Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government deciding on forming three capitals for the state, a fresh demand has surfaced from the proponents of Greater Rayalaseema.
Former MP Gangula Pratap Reddy, who has been in the forefront of the agitation for Greater Rayalaseema state, said he had already raised the demand for making Tirupati as the capital of Greater Rayalaseema.
“When I was in the Congress party at the time of formation of Telangana state in 2014, I had written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi stating that Greater Rayalaseema with six districts should be made as a separate state,” he pointed out.
However, the Congress had not responded to Gangula’s letter and gone ahead with bifurcation of the state into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“As a result, the Congress has completely disappeared from the state politics,” he pointed out.
Gangula said he would tour the districts of Greater Rayalaseema after Sankranti festival along with several important leaders.
“I am confident that it is going to be a huge mass movement in the coming days. The formation of Greater Rayalaseema will become a reality and Tirupati will be its capital city,” he said.
