Nothing significant for AP in Nirmala budget?

The Union budget for 2025-26 introduced by finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman in Lok Sabha on Saturday has not made any significant allocations to Andhra Pradesh, as she had done during the last year’s budget.

Though the Centre had made routine allocations to Andhra Pradesh, there are no special packages or exclusive allocations to the state.

Though substantial allocations were made for the Polavaram project, they are only part of the ongoing process to complete the project as per schedule.

According to official figures, the key allocations in the budget are as follows:

Rs 5,936 crore for the Polavaram Project; Rs 12,157 crore as a balance grant for Polavaram construction; Rs 3,295 crore for Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Rs 730 crore for Visakhapatnam Port, Rs 162 crore for strengthening the state’s healthcare system, Rs 186 crore for Zero Budget Natural Farming, Rs 375 crore to support Learning Transformation Operations, Rs 240 crore for the construction of roads and bridges in the state and Rs 242.50 crore for the second phase of the Andhra Pradesh Irrigation and Livelihood Improvement Project.

However, the Centre has ignored the request of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for making substantial allocations to Godavari-Krishna river linkage project, also known as Polavaram-Banakacharla project.

However, sources said, allocation for the project was not made due to non-submission of detailed project report yet.

Union civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu said since the TDP is part of the NDA government at the Centre, the state would definitely get huge funds in the coming months.
