Actress-turned-politician and former Telugu Desam Party official spokesperson Divyavani, who recently resigned from the party stating that she was humiliated there, is learnt to have sent feelers to the ruling YSR Congress party.
According to sources, Divyavani approached some top leaders of the YSRC and sought an appointment with party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for formally joining the party.
However, sources said there was no positive response from the party for admitting Divyavani. Apparently, she put forth quite a few demands like getting a prominent position in the party such as appointment as party’s official spokesperson.
She also reportedly sought an assurance from the party high command for an MLC seat or a nominated post in the coming days.
“As of now, the party leadership has not evinced any interest in taking her into the party, as there is no immediate benefit to the party in admitting her,” a source said.
However, if Divyavani is interested in joining the party without any preconditions, the party might consider her entry. But having held some position in the TDP, Divyavani might not be interested to remain an ordinary worker in the YSRC.
There were reports that she might even try to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, but being a Christian, she might find it difficult to gain entry into the saffron party.
So, for now, she might lie low before taking any decision on her political future.
