No question of yielding to pressures: Jagan

Notwithstanding the criticism and pressures from various sides on his decisions to review power purchase agreements and go in for reverse tendering in various projects like Polavaram and Machilipatnam port, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy remains unmoved and stubborn.

Jagan, who held a meeting with the cabinet sub-committee headed by finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy on the PPA reviews and various tenders, reiterated his decision to go ahead with his policies, come what may.

The sub-committee submitted its report on the policies and projects taken up by the previous TDP government.

“There seems to be irregularities and massive corruption in every decision of the previous government. So, there is no question of going back on reverse tendering of these projects,” he said and instructed that quick decisions be taken to go ahead with fresh tenders.

Jagan asserted that he would not succumb to any sorts of pressures and give up the fight against corruption.

“We can save huge money through reverse tendering and every paisa that is saved from fresh tenders would go only to the welfare of the people. Let us not be bothered about criticism and threatening from any side,” he said.

The chief minister’s decision to review power purchase agreements incurred wrath from the Centre as well as the power producers, besides national credit agencies and funding agencies.

At the same time, the Polavaram Project Authority also warned the government against going in for reverse tendering in the Polavaram project, stating that it would not only delay the project, but also result in cost escalation.

But Jagan appears to have cared a damn for the warnings and criticism and decided not to yield to any such pressure tactics.
